Music(for robots) is an mp3 blog that I've know about for a while. Today I just made a huge connection realizing that some of the guys that run this are Bates alumni. Not only are they Bates alumni, but they are Strange Bedfellow alumni. I'm listening to the newest 3hive podcast and there is a guy named, Mark Willett who I'm positive I've improved with before. After much research I now realize that almost all the robots over there are Bates alumni and at least 3 of them are Strange Bedfellow alumni. Check their site out for some free legal music.

Clue to Kalo's newest release is an entertaining mix of ambient sounds, hard to understand vocals, and some great music. After a first listen this album is one of the better new albums I've heard in a while. There are some nice electronic beats mixed in with dreamy vocals and I think I even hears some bag pipes in there every once in a while. For one guy with a laptop and some instruments this album is great. I think I really like it because it is ambient enough that I can study while listening to it and if I wanted to I could just sit down and listen intensly trying to figure out the lyrics.

Think Secret - Road to Expo: Reborn Mac mini set to take over the living room

A new Mac Mini with built in DVR and Front Row may be on its way in early 2006. Although there isn't much gaming involved this seems like the obvious rebuttle for the new X-Box 360. I'm sure Apple will do it a lot sexier though. Intel Macs are also supposed to arrive 6 months earlier than originally planned.

I haven't read any feedback or reviews from Beat Radio's show last week but I'm sure it was excellent. Their next gig is scheduled for Rothko in NYC on 12/15. They will be accompanied by The Changes and The Diggs. I've heard 3 tracks from The Diggs and after a first listen they're pretty good. I enjoyed the long building Trouble Everyday, but if you check out their mp3 page there are two other tracks. If you live in the NYC area or are there in December definitely check out this show.

Beck Hanson has updated his website to be shocking, and flashier. Beck.com is now louder and bright with fun animations and streaming audio. I've listened to one of the tracks on the site but I found the site to navigate slowly and at some times to be annoying. It's Beck and he's always changing, we'll see what he does next.

Guns for Thanksgiving!

We have so many people at my house for Thanksgiving that we need to rent out the local fish and game club. We don't have thousands of people but my stepmother does have to cook 5 turkeys and 12 pies. The best part of hosting Thanksgiving at the Fish and Game club is that we get to shoot guns. Last year we got to shoot handguns. My aunt used to be a cop and has all kinds of guns. I had never shot a handgun before but I'll tell you what; after a few beers and some turkey, shooting a handgun is fucking fun! The bad news is this year, no guns. I guess we'll all just have to get drunk and throw some snow balls this year.

Beat Radio Update

I've been exchanging emails with Brian from Beat Radio. If you've read my blog at all you know that I can't stop ranting and raving about these guys. It looks like they are working toward making a full LP with the working title The Great Big Sea. They will be looking to tour this spring, so if you work for any kind of venue or go to a college that could book them keep your eyes open. Brian is also planning on putting up some new mp3's pretty soon on their mp3 site.

Dear Fox, (Arrested Development tops Amazon Sales)

Dear Fox,
Arrested Development are topping the DVD list at Amazon.Now don't you think this means something? There is a fan base for the show. We are a passionate people, and we care about comedy. Can't you sacrifice one half hour slot a week to 5 million smart viewers? That number will grow too. The comparisons have been made to Family Guy, and Seinfeld and the fan base will just expand. Here is all you have to do and I've broken it down to a few easy steps:
1.)Advertise the show. As of right now I think I may have seen one ad ever and it was just before the third season came out.
2.)Put reruns of the first two seasons on FX, and run some more mini marathons.
3.)Develop some kind of on-demand feature for the show, either put them on iTunes or offer them on-demand for digital cable subscribers.
4.)Give the writers the freedom to do what they want. Some fans of this season feel that the show has been a bit Foxcized(sp?). What do they mean by that? Fox is forcing them to change things to fit in on the network, you can't do that to AD.
5.)Allow the show to have a consistent time slot for once. The third season we have seen three episoded in three weeks(good), then we saw two episodes in one night(good) 4 weeks later(bad). We are not going to get another episode for another 4 weeks(bad). Put the show in a time slot that won't get interupted by sweeps, or baseball.
Take those five steps and you are guaranteed to make a few more million dollars a year, I guarantee it. Stop worrying so much about ratings and look at quality.

Here's a scary death from a drug overdoes that occured yesterday. I hope Fox doesn't try to blame anyone related to Arrested Development for this. Prison Break is one of the only shows that stands between AD and a great audience. Well Prison Break, the fact they get no advertising, they don't have a consistent schedule, and the people at Fox are a bunch of douch bags.

We'll see if anything comes from this. I would be jumping for joy if this comes out to be true. It seems too early for anything like this to have actually come about, but well see.

Battle of the Broken Nose

"Set, hut, hut!" The quarterback stepped back. Tristan set out for his route burning Berko on the line. The quarterbacks eyes projected the pass and Berko saw something that he thought he could intercept. Full speed he stepped toward Tristan and they both went for the ball. Berko's nose collided with Tristan's shoulder as they both went for the ball. Blood squirted everywhere like an automatic paintball gun had shot Berko in the face. "Shit! Jesus!!," His nose was fucked-up.

That's the way I see Berko breaking his nose this past weekend. The best part of the whole thing was this morning.

"Well, let me take a look at that." The doctor approached Berko and examined his nose. "Yeah that thing is definitely broken."
"Um, yeah." Berko replied.
"You could go get general anestesia, but that is just a hassle over at the hospital. Let me try something." The doctor put Berko in a headlock, grabs his nose and makes like Rambo breaking a bad guys neck. Berko's nose cracks like a fat guy cracking his nuckles. "Shit!!" Berko's nose is back together like everyone always remembered him.

Last May John Mulligan and I made a movie. The movie is called, "I Believe This is Happening: Terrorism". It is an Upright Citizens Brigade style sketch comedy film. It runs at abou 35 minutes long, and deals with Johnson and Johnson's terrorist friendly beard cream, a guy who forgets his wallet at 7-11, Allen Sanders child star, Reginald Manson - the Charles Manson like popstar, Clyde - the crazy frat guy, and a guy obsessed with the Home Shopping Network. I have coverted it to an iPod friendly format in hopes that maybe someone will download it and watch it.

Time Cavern 2: Lost in Time (iPod ready video)

Earlier this spring I was in a one act play written by my friends Jon and James. It was called "Time Cavern 2". There was no original Time Cavern, but this thing was good. It is a story of Jesus(Me), Skip Griffin(astronaught), Andrew Jackson(former president), Clarissa(a seer), and Beatrice(a poor british girl) stuck in a time cavern. Fox officially can now eat a bag of dicks. They have pretty much officially given up on Arrested Development. This season has been cut from 22 to 13 and it is not airing for the rest of November. Maybe if Fox didn't fuck around with the scheduling so much and actually gave it a constant weekly time slot, and some advertising it would pick up an audience. I am going to quote myself, "Fox officially can now eat a bag of dicks." Now I'm angry but I still have hope, I haven't seen an announcement from Fox, just some posts here at the OP. Keep praying, there is a possibility it could get picked up by another network, HBO would be good!

That's right 1000 gigabytes in an iPod, pretty hard to imagine right now, but it sounds like the future. If you had asked anyone 5 years ago how big you thought anyone would need for a portable device, they may have said 20gb at the most, but most would have probably said something in the 100s of megabyte range. Considering terabyte drives right now are in the thousands of dollars, it is going to take a lot of shrinking and lowering of price to get them to iPod size.

My Employer Got Broken Into

The DVD collection of The Adventures of Pete & Pete currently tops my DVD want list. This show may have been written for kids, but I still watch it every once in a while and I love it. The story follows two brothers both named Pete. Artie, "The Strongest Man in the World" is one of their best friends. I might be getting this one around X-mas time because I'm going to have a lot of down time to watch plenty of DVD's. The older brother was on some E-trade commercials for a while and I'm pretty sure he went to SUNY Purchase with a friend of mine.

Rate Your Music has their top 1000 albums of this year as rated by members of the community. I don't completely agree with everything, but I am impressed seeing Animal Collective: Feels at number three. Sufjan Stevens is number one, but I think it probably updates itself as more people vote.

Alex and I made a movie in about 2 hours last year. It follows the story of a young man with burnout syndrome. It's about 8 minutes long and the file is about 50 megabytes. There is some great music in it too, the Shins, Beck, and Speechwriters LLC.

I got a chance to watch the two most recent episodes of Arrested Development last night and there were moments when I was laughing my ass off. The second episode with the Godzilla fight of Tobias as a Mole versus George Michael with a jetpack was ridiculous. Just thinking about the image of the two of them destroying a train model village in front of a bunch of Japanese executives is ridiculous. I can't remember too much of the first episode right now, but I do remember Michael taking Oxycotin from Steve Holt at one point, what the hell was that all about?

This is still the best show on television, but I'm still worried new viewers are too hard to hook because of the continuous story line. Keep watching and tell your friends, and buy the DVDs for friends and family.

So Alex got a new iPod today. It is damn sexy. We watched the first episode of this season of Arrested Development on it and it looked great. I could definitely see myself sitting and watching a few episodeds of a TV show on it, I'm not sure about full movies. I want one now, bad. I've started converting videos for himi to watch and maybe he'll even let me borrow it sometime to mess around with. I am now converting a DVD of a play I was in last year called Time Cavern.

The program to convert with is called MPEG Streamclip. Download the beta version for the iPod conversion button and I recommend if you are doing widescreen things changing the setting from 320x240 to 320x180, it will look much better.

This movie is great. It follows a bunch of kids on their way to the National Spelling Bee. This film is full of genuin true comedy. They couldn't have made a lot of this stuff up. If you want a great laugh and an insiders look into what it's like to be a spelling bee kid, watch this. My only dissapointment is the lack of footage of George Abraham Thampy.

Now this is a solid resource, but I don' t think there is any way to beat the way around restrictions such as my schools network. This webite offers some great bittorrent programs and how to guides. If you aren't familiar with bittorrent then you probably don't use a computer often. Bittorrent is the most recent form of peer-to-peer software that works amazingly well.

This 2005 album by Animal Collective is quite a piece of work. It's 8 tracks long, but it is fun in the sense I get from The Boy Least Likely To, but more crowded and cluttered in a good way. The melodies in the first tracks have me begging for more. The yells and screams are simply amazing. Listen to this album!

Someone over at the OP, an Arrested Development fan site claims that Will Arnet, GOB from Arrested Development will be doing monologues for ASSSSCAT. If you've never seen an ASSSSCAT you will not be dissapointed. The monologist takes a one word suggestion from the audience, then the improvers improv based on the stories for about an hour. In LA Matt Besser, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh are usually around to do the shows. In NY we usually get Amy Poehler (Arnets Wife), Horatio Sanz, Rachael Dratch, Tina Fey, and sometimes Seth Meyers. I've seen about half a dozen ASSSSCATS including the ones they taped for the Bravo Special back in September and every time I laugh my ass off.

I spend half my time in Alaska, so this is something I care about. If you can watch this film, Oil on Ice. It describes what is at stake in Alaska and gives reasons for wanting to save the Refuge from oil drilling. This is one of the last truly wild places in our country, so why not try to save it? People are lazy, so I would bet that not many people will do enough to save it and we will just have more oil to drive our cars around with anyway. If I had my way we wouldn't get oil from there and we would be driving hover cars that run off of candy. Imagine all the candy.
