ufck's top 25 AOTY

ufck top 25
Check out the ufckers top 25 albums of the last year. I agree with most of them, but I think it's a little Ryan Adams heavy. It's also nice to see that 6 of the 10 I voted for made the list.

Hit the Chronic(les of Narnia)

iTunes right now offers a free download of Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell from Saturday Night Live. The free download is an SNL sketch that aired last week. I must say it's damn funny and highly recommend. It's free so if you don't like it, just delete it sucka!

Edit(1-14-2006): iTunes charges you now for all the Saturday Night Live stuff, but you can find this short here.

TV.com Names Arrested Development "Best Show of the Year"

TV.com: The New Home of TV Tome
Arrested Development receives the honor along with Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, and Commander In Chief for show of the year. TV.com just like everyone else is talking like AD has been canceled, but it still hasn't been. The 3rd season has simply been cut back to 13 episodes after that it may be canceled or picked up by someone else. The Season 2 DVD's earn a spot in the best DVD's of this year. In the category of best new show of the fall, My Name is Earl comes in at number one, and I have to agree with that one. Make sure you head over there and vote for all your favorites for The Viewers' Choice

Arrested Development: Making A Stand

Balboa Observer-Picayune: Arrested Development Episode Guide: Making A Stand
Tonights episode of Arrested Develeopment was hands down the funniest of the third season. There are only 5 episodes left in the 3rd season for Fox and it seems like Mitch Hurwitz is back in the drivers seat giving us some quality episodes. This episode unlike the past few had some great callbacks that didn't seem forced at all. The past few "her" and "him" references were getting old and seemed really forced.
I had surgery today so I couldn't laugh too hard but I sure wanted to laugh until my sutures fell out. The video covers for all off George Sr.'s DVD's were great, especially the Buster shorts. Each character was well utilized and balanced and the ending was great. It's about time Buster gets to teach a lesson.

Smokin "Weeds" in the Summer of 2006

Showtime - Announcements

Showtimes entertaining series "Weeds" has been renewed for a second season that will air next summer and have 12 episodes.
WEEDS, a single-camera comedy that exposes the dirty little secrets that lie behind the pristine lawns and shiny closed doors of homes in the fictional town of Agrestic, California. People are saying that if Fox cancels Arrested Development Showtime may pick it up and these two shows may be siblings. If you haven't seen this show make sure you pick it up on DVD when it comes out, until then check out
The Weeds Sountrack
. It includes some great tracks from The New Pornographers, The Mountain Goats, and more.

Arrested Development Continues to Deliver

Arrested Development - Prison Break-In
The new Arrested Development gave us:
The Return of Uncle Oscar
More Marijuana Related Jokes
A lot of Vaginal Moisture Jokes:
"I was just going to bring mom some Vag-stable paste"
More Cousin Incestual Jokes
Tobias on the Brink of Death with GBH(Graft Vs. Host)
Callback to the 1st Season with GOB wanting to take a Forget Me Now(Rufie)

God I love this show! The 3rd Season is just as strong as any others. Repeat viewings are key so I recommend taping, DVRing or Dling these all if you get the chance.

Dave Matthews Band in New Hampshire

Dave Matthews Band - On the Road
I will be indulging in one of my guilty pleasures of a Dave Matthews Band concert tonight in Manchester, NH. I'll be sitting on the floor about 10 rows back. I used to be pretty obsessed with these guys but my music taste has completely changes since the last time I saw them 3 years ago. A little guilty pleasure never hurt anyone and fuck all you haters.

A Nutsack's Top 10 Albums of 2005

Everyone else is publishing their Top 10 lists of the year, so without further ado, The Thank God I'm A Nutsack Top 10 Albums of 2005.

#1My Morning Jacket - Z
This album is strong from beginning to end. When you hear Jim James screaming during "Wordless Chorus" you can tell that this album is going to be epic. MMJ delivers with reverb lyrics and catchy guitar licks. I was lucky enough to catch these guys live a few months back and they bring the energy on the road. I love this album!

#2Broken Social Scene - Broken Social Scene
Some albums are overproduced in a bad way, this album is overworked and overproduced but it just makes it a cut above the rest. BSS don't want to have top radio hits, they just want to make great music that no one else is doing. "Shoreline(7/4)" must be one of the best oddly time signature songs written and Feist's vocals make it heavenly. Some people think it's a step down from YFIIP but I think that 10 plus members of the Social Scene sound complete with they're self titled release.

#3Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Sure it's trendy and hip to like these guys, but I like it. The whiney screaming vocals and dancy guitars coming from CYHSY are refreshing and fun. Several stand out tracks for me include, "The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth", "Upon this Tidal Wave of Young Blood", and "Heavy Metal". Sure I can't understand what the hell they are saying most of the time, but I can still shake my head and dance to it.

#4Rogue Wave - Descended Like Vultures
I knew I was going to like this album when I got the 10:1EP this summer. Rogue Wave catch you with dreamy pop melodies. Zach Rogue's lazy deliver catches you and doesn't want to let you go. The build of "Are You on My Side" is worth the album alone especially when Zach delivers his best Doo-Da-Loo rooster impression at the songs zenith. The two iTunes demo's are definitely worth the download and gratify your need for just a little Rogue Wave dessert.

#5Animal Collective - Feels
The strangely addictive sound of Animal Collective comes in at number 3. Some people may not get these guys and I'll give it to you they are out there but they make unpredictably extraordinary music. They fill their songs with sound of all kinds and make you want to dance a little bit here and there. If you haven't heard this album listen to "Grass", and "Purple Bottle".

#6Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Definitely the loudest album on my list and people will call you posers for liking it more than Franz Ferdinand and I guess it makes me a poser. The first five tracks of this album make me want to strum my air guitar and thrash around my room. You can't help but want to dance to the fast paced guitars and driving drums. The catchy British lyrics compliment the nonstop guitar force that makes this album my number 6 of 2005.

#7Andrew Bird - Mysterious Production of Eggs
This one was a sleeper for me. I got it back in April but didn't really get into it until September. This album reminds me a lot of Beck during "Sea Change" but not quite as depressing. Lots of whistling and twitching make this album fun and easy to listen to. Try "A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left", and "The Naming of Things". This album provided the soundtrack to my Thanksgiving.

#8Death Cab For Cutie - Plans
This album makes the list because I probably listened to it a hundred times while I was in Alaska this summer. The album opens with the lyrics, "If I could open my arms and span the length of the isle of Manhattan" just made me think of New York every time I heard it. "Summer Skin" defined my ferry ride at the end of the summer from Haines to Juneau and songs like "Different Names for the Same Place" pegged how I felt this summer. Ben Gibbard achieved perfection with one of the most beautiful love ballads ever written, "I Follow You Into the Dark". There are haters, but I'm not one of them and that's why this album is number 8.

#9The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan
Another summer album for me that had Glockenspiel(sp?) and piano hooks running through my head every time I rowed down the river. I probably spent three weeks with "My Doorbell" stuck in my head singing the hook every 10 seconds, my friends hated me. Meg White simplifies music to simple beats and Jack makes melodic dreams come true with every song.

#10Kanye West - Late Registration
Kanye does it again with the catchiest hooks and best dance beats of the year. Sure he is one cocky son-of-a-bitch, but he backs it up with great music. Sign your pre-nubs and throw up your diamonds, because Kanye's throwin' a party.

If you don't want to subscribe just hop on your iTunes search and find the Rogue Wave and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah Lounge Act episodes. Both are worth the download and include some great live tracks as well as good interviews.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - S/T

Rogue Wave - Descended Like Vultures

Matt Walsh from UCB to be in "Lives"

UCB THEATRE

Comedy Central picked up a series that NBC passed on called "Lives".
"Lives" will mine laughs by having fictional characters interact with real people under the guise of being local news reporters. But unlike "Ali G," "Lives" moves beyond skits to take its characters into a full-blown narrative that follows their chaotic lives even when they're not messing with random strangers.

It's great to see UCB members getting more television work. Look for Amy Poehler and Will Arnet to face off with Will Ferrell and Jon Heder(Napolean Dynamite) in "Blades of Glory", an ice skating comedy.

Illusions Michael!!

The new Arrested Development definitely had me laughing pretty hard at times. If you DVR'd or for godsake taped it watch this first. It will make a joke that was funny to me even funnier to you. It's an old VW golf commercial with Tony Hale driving.

I really can't get over how complicated some of the references are getting in the newest episode of Arrested Development. If you look at Tobias(David Cross) in the scene where he is in his dolly(wheelchair) he looks exactly like his character in Scary Movie 2. The writers are really stretching for the last few episodes for us die hard fans.

Apple uses videos to drive hardware sales: Wow Really?

Apple to use videos to drive hardware sales
iLounge reports this like it is some kind of huge suprise. Of course Apple is offering videos just to sell more iMacs and iPods. They probably make a couple nickles or dimes off of music tracks, or TV episodes, but make big dough off of the iPods and computers. Apple has always been about selling the hardware, not the software and its a business model that has worked for them. They aren't about to change it now. I think I'm going to go buy 5 iPods and a few more computers so I can watch all the Desperate Housewives.

Last.fm New Feature: Recommendations

Last.fm offers you recommendations

If you are already a Last.fm member you may have noticed the newest feature of recommendations. This section of Last.fm now offers music to listen to, journals to read, and friends to make based on what everyon is listening to. If you hate popular music they even have the slider that lets your recommendations be based on either "more popular", or "more obscure". It's a good thing they continue to add features because last.fm can get boring after a few hours of messing with all they have to offer.

Arrested Development: The Final Countdown 8 Episodes Left

I pulled this off of Yahoo! TV:
"The Ocean Walker" Episode #306.
George Sr. fears that Rita (Charlize Theron) is after Michael's money; Rita's uncle tries to stop the wedding by revealing surprising information.

Cast: Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Alia Shawkat, Tony Hale, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Charlize Theron, Dave Thomas, Bob Einstein.
Producer(s): Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, David Nevins, Mitchell Hurwitz.

"Prison Break-In" Episode #308.
Michael worries when he learns Lucille is dating the warden (James Lipton) behind his father's back.

Cast: Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Alia Shawkat, Tony Hale, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, James Lipton, Ken Kimmins.
Producer(s): Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, David Nevins, Mitchell Hurwitz.

It's weird that they have 306 and then 308 airing with no 307 in between. Remember the first of these two episodes is this Monday at 8PM. If you want to read the latest developments the AD Myspace has a lot of info, but the-op seems to be down right now. Good news for the possible salvation of this show is that Fox is in talks with Apple for an iTunes distribution deal.

Broken Roads in Haines

Part of the 7 Mile stretch of Mud Bay Road that I drive everyday in the summer is currently ruined because of all the rain last week. I occasionally read up on the Chilkat Valley News to see what's going on at my summer home.
