Broken Social Scene Boston Setlist

Finally it looks like this may be the actual setlist from the Boston show:
Cause=Time
Ibi Dreams of Pavement
7-4
Stars and Sons
Almost Crimes
Anthems
Fire Eye'd Boy
Superconnected
Handjobs for the Holidays
Hotel
K.C. Accidental

(no encore, place turns into dance party after 10:30pm)

One of the guys on Arts & Crafts posted it, it looks pretty good to me, I don't remember anything else specifically. I wish I could torrent one of the recent shows I'd love to have one of these live.

eluvium - great mood music

I'm always looking for good music to study or work to. Sigur Ros is one of my favorites. I dig music with no lyrics or lyrics that I can't understand while writing or reading. This album, talk amongst the trees by eluvium is great. It's full of ambient sounds and no lyrics. This music is probably best for falling asleep to or just thinking. It isn't the kind of music to interrupt your brainwaves.

Here are a couple songs of the website to check out:
eluvium - genius
eluvium - under

I came across this and wish I could download it. I saw it and Tivo'd it but then our cable provider switched our box and we lost it. Now I am stuck on my lame college network and can't download it. If you haven't seen it, please download it and watch it. I was at the taping and you can see me on stage right a few times.

Ricky Gervais does the Big Screen with Christopher Guest

Guardian Unlimited Film | News | Blow for BBC as Gervais sets his sights on the big screen

Ricky Gervais and Christopher Guest working together? You have to be kidding me. It's true the comic genius's who have produced such works as The Office BBC, Extras, Spinal Tap, Waiting For Guffman, Best in Show, and A Mighty Wind are working together to make a new film called For Your Consideration. I don't know if it will be mockumentary style or not although we know they both love that style.

Beat Radio Lyrics

I'm slowly transcribing the lyrics for Beat Radio songs. Here are the lyrics for A Million Miles, and Treetops. Some of the lyrics I'm unsure about, that's why you gett he ()?

A Million Miles

down a diamond highway line
we counted every star
travel on the moonlight mile
to remember who we are
cause everybodies out of love
except for you and me
your heart is like a house on fire
i'm a storm upon the sea

i know I've been walking for, a million miles
i saw something in your eyes, it made me smile

we walk along the ancient street
the way young lovers do
i knew we've been here before
but everything is new
the moment in the morning (light)?
the sunlight meets your eyes
the movement of the salty sea
and (upon bondero)? skys

I know i've been walking for a million miles
i saw somthing in your eyes, it made me smile.

and I've been a vagabond
just passing through
I feel like I'm falling for you
when i'm with you

I know I've been walking for a million miles
I saw something in your eyes, it made me smile.

and i've been a vagabond
just passing through
I feel like I'm falling for you

Treetops (4 track demo)

a million manhattan sink in the sea
bells of the evening
ring out for me
my hands are shaking
like the leaves of september
think i'm alright
i don't remember
i know I'm alone
but with you i'm better
i'm sending you flowers
i'm writing you letters
the summer is starting to feel like forever
to burn down our love and swallow the embers

in the treetops of my mind
and your heart is keeping time
in the basement of my head
i remember what you said
on the jukebox in a bar
i heard the sound of old guitars
it changed something in my brain
i've never been the same
a million manhattan sink in the sea
bells of the evening
ring out for me
my hands are shaking
like the leaves of september
think i'm alright
i don't remember
i know I'm alone
but with you i'm better
i'm sending you flowers
i'm writing you letters
the summer is starting to feel like forever
to burn down our love and swallow the embers

in the treetops of my mind
and your heart is keeping time
in the basement of my head
i remember what you said
on the jukebox in a bar
i heard the sound of old guitars
it changed something in my brain
i've never been the same

a million manhattan sink in the sea
bells of the evening
ring out for me
my hands are shaking
like the leaves of september

i don't remember
i know I'm alone

try to keep an open heard
but everything falls apart
i try to keep an open heart
there are things you want to say
but your so many miles away

Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs

Andrew Bird

I've listened to this album twice now and it is great. It is pretty slow and mellow but a great listen, think Beck - Sea Change. The first track actually sounds very much like Beck singing at times.

For those of you that don't want to spend any money on him before you listen check out the greatness of archive.org. They have shows from 1998 to 2005.

Witches Broomsticks for "Riding"

Broomstick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

I'm reading The Botany of Desire and there is a chapter on marijuana. There is mention of other halucinagenics and witches "riding brooms" came up. Here is the wikepedia explanation. It looks like they were into drugged up dildos.

"In such accounts, a woman applied a layer of paste made out of trance-inducing plants (such as belladonna) to the broomstick and straddled it as one would a beast of burden to ride it, and this had the effect of applying the hallucinogenic herb to the thin skin of the labia where it might be quickly absorbed into the bloodstream."

Black Mountain: Black Mountain

So if I am a little behind in the times for some things, I'm sorry. I just got this album the other day, and I'm listeing to it right now for the first time. It's full of wah-wah guitars, crazy sounding horns, and all around pretty darn good music.

Advice for the College Bound 1-5

These are a few things I think people early in college or heading to college could use to help them save money and be happier in life. This is 5 of them in no particular order:

1.) Declare your major at the last possible minute. Wait until someone forces you to do it and even then put off the paper work until they put a gun to your head.

2.) Get all your books from the library. If the professor put them on reserve then good. If the books aren't on reserve get to the library with a list of the books you need before anyone else and take them all out. Use the local library if you have to.

3.) During your first 3 years if someone is doing something fun on a weeknight, don't use class as an excuse to not do it. Do it, go party, dance, go to a concert, whatever.

4.) Stay up late, but take naps. There is a lot of stuff that happens late at night, you don't want to miss it do you.

5.) If you are in a class on the first day and think, this doesn't seem too fun, drop it. Don't tell yourself, "oh I'll just stick it out". You'll be miserable, drop it quickly and pick up a theater class.

Paste Magazine: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah :: Believe the Hype

These guys are good. The hype is big surrounding Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, but they do deserve it. I just downloaded a live show of theirs from Atlanta. It has some solid new songs that people have been blogging about for a while now. I figured I'd link you to some of them I found around, my personal favorite and everyone elses, "Satan Said Dance".

Descended Like Vultures: Pitchfork Review

Rogue Wave: Descended Like Vultures: Pitchfork Review

A 7.8 from Pitchfork isn't too bad. I'm suprised these guys didn't get more press from having "Every Moment (live)" on the Napolean Dynamite Soundtrack. I've been able to listen to this now twice completely and I don't know which I like better this or Out of The Shadow. Either way this album is definitely worth the 12 dollars or 10 you pay off of iTunes.

Rosa Parks, 1912-2005

Apple pays tribute to Rosa Parks

Interesting to see that Apple posted a picture of Rosa Parks on their website in honor of her passing today. I vaguely remember a bunch of Apple posters a while back that had people like John Lennon, John Henson, Einstein, and a bunch of other innovators on them saying, "Think Different", maybe there was a Rosa Parks one.

Doug Funny - The Beats

The Beets

I was trying to remember why I knew the song, "Killer Tofu". It hit me that it was the fictional band from Nickelodeon's, Doug. It was a great show 10 years ago. I'd still love to hear "Killer Tofu". Ooo-eee-ooo Killer Tofu.

Someone else blogged about The Beets and Doug and have a List of mp3's

They also have a Beets Myspace

Rogue Wave - "On A Plain" (Nirvana Cover)

So in honor of the new Rogue Wave album that comes out today I tracked down the live, "On A Plain" cover and I'd like to share it with all of you.

Rogue Wave - Descended Like Vultures

Amazon.com: Descended Like Vultures: Music

Sub Pop Records big release (in my mind) tomorrow is this album. I've heard it and I like it. I look forward to giving it my full attention for a few listens. If you haven't heard their last album Out of the Shadow go get it now. The iTunes Exhumed and Regroomed is also definitely worth the download.

If you have the Nirvana "on a plain" cover of Rogue Wave's I want it.

My Name Is Earl - Jason Lee's New Sitcom

NBC.com>My Name Is Earl

Tuesdays 9PM NBC

I decided to watch the first episode of this show and I have to say it's pretty funny. It's no Arrested Development, but the premise is funny. Earl (Jason Lee) learns about Karma from Carson Daly. He then decides to fix everything he's ever done wrong in his life. In the first episode he helps out a kid he beat up in elementary school by trying to get him laid. It turns out the guy is gay. Lots of small town homophobic jokes ensue, but in the end all is forgiven as Earl is able to understand his gay little friend.

My Friend Makes out with John Vanderslice

John Vanderslice says hello...

So I couldn't listen to John Vanderslice for the longest time. It wasn't so much that I couldn't but it was, I wouldn't give him a chance. My friend made out with the guy. I couldn't see myself liking some music from some creepy dude that hit on my 20 year old friend (she's 21 now). Well now I've given him a chance and he's actually pretty darn good. I really like the song, "Me and My 424", and now I'm giving Cellar Door a chance.

Another Broken Social Scene Review - Grant Hall

Queen's Journal - Crowded Scene at Grant Hall

Here is a BSS review that I just came across from the Friday night show. The last few lines kind of summed up the show last night for me. Essentially most of the people were there because they had heard the name, Broken Social Scene thrown around. The hardcore fans were the ones dancing all around the show.

Dear Lisa, Love Grammy

Ever find a letter that wasn't meant for you? How about 20 dollars in a library book? It's funny to imagine the people that read a library book before you have it. I just found a letter for Lisa from her Grandmother in a book I'm reading. Grammy is really excited about turkey prices, and the price for her pills, $2.00 a pill, damn. It's pretty crazy to think that Grammy and Lisa somewhere have no idea that I am writing this in reference to them. Oh Lisa if you are reading and want your letter back, just let me know, I found it in a copy of Bill McKibben's "The End of Nature".

William Cronon, Environmental Writer - Coming to Bates

William Cronon's Website

William Cronon has written several essays and books about the natural environment, geograpy and history. He is a profesor at the University of Wisconsis. He will be lecturing here at Bates College on Thursday, November 10th in Chase Hall Lounge. The title of his talk is called, Saving Nature in Time: The Past and the Future of Environmentalism. This pertains to my interest because I am using some of his work on my thesis this year. I am in the process of getting a few of his books, but I am also relying heavily on an essay of his titled, "The Trouble with Wilderness or, Getting Back to the Wrong Nature". It's an interesting read as it questions our perspective of wilderness and why we treat nature the way we do.

Broken Social Scene - Avalon, Boston 10-22-2005

Road rules - The Boston Globe

Broken Social Scene hit the stage around 8:15 with 8 members on "Cause = Time", probably one of their most hypnotizing songs in my opinion. The whole show was a spectacle with anywhere from 8 to 12(? maybe more) members working together like a well oiled machine. Noone missed a beat and the energy on stage was well maintained and passed around during solos like a bottle of whiskey between friends. There were as many as 5 guitars soloing and 2 drummers hammering away at a time. Feist, one of the many Broken Social Scene collaborators joined the group on several songs including 7/4 (Shorline), Lovers Spit, Almost Crimes, and Backyards. I can't imagine seeing a Broken Social Scene show without Feist, she added an energy to the stage that wasn't matched by anyone else. She just has so much fun and you can tell she is feeling the groove as she claps her fingers together like she is playing timbalas. It was too bad the band couldn't play an encore because they had to get out of their so some ravers could come in take their extacy. They closed the show with It's All Gonna Break and I was a little dissapointed that we got a requested Backyards instead of Major Label Debut. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this but the guy that was playing trumpet on a few songs looks exactly like Chris Kattan, former member of SNL. The show clocked in at almost exactly 1hr and 45 minutes. If anyone got a copy of the setlist and wants to scan it and send it to me, I'll post it here for us all to see, I'd be interested to see what other on the fly changes they made.

Feist - Listen to Her

Arts&Crafts: Feist - Let It Die

Feist opened for Broken Social Scene last night in Boston. She's one of the many people who has worked with Broken Social Scene in the past, and sang on about 6 songs last night at the show. Check out her album but most importantly the song "One Evening". Her voice is breathy and dreamy, and she pulls it off with no effort whatsoever. When I get home I'll get you a review of the Broken Social Scene show from last night.

A band that’s anything but broken

Ask Margo

Can't Stop Thinking About Her

Margo is a genius. Look at how well she handles this really tough question from a sixth year old boy. If you need advice, I'd say that Margo is the first person to go to. She is the all knowing, and sounds like she has it all really figured out. I think I'll write her a few emails. Oh to be 12 again...

These guys are a simplified Broken Social Scene, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!... If you want to get addicted to one of their songs download "treetops". The Beat Radio homepage says they are playin in NYC on 11/2 and in Williamsburg the day before thanksgiving. If you live near the city these guys have potential to make it big, so go see them.

Social Scene Rocks the Capital!

You're a Blog: Social Scene Rocks the Capital!

It's nice to see that Broken Social Scene is pleasing the crowds already. This is the only concert review I can find since they started their tour a few days ago. Tomorrow night the Avalon is going to have the roof blown off, and I'm going to be there.

Hunting Turkey with Natural Light

Denmark, ME is a great place. I'm not talking about the village, or the people, I'm talking about the Turkeys. Yesterday I almost killed a turkey with a Natural Light beer can. At about 10 Alex and I saw a bunch of wild turkeys and immediately we knew what he had to do, chase them. Instinctually I grabbed a full can of beer and began running. I threw the can once I was within about 30 yards of them. The can flew end over end and bounced right next to the head of one of those wild turkeys. I spent about 15 minutes comando style wandering in the woods trying to catch one, but no dice. They were huge too. Several of them flew out of a tree and were at least the size of a basketball, even bigger. I'm a vegetarian, but man one of those would have been a great dinner last night. Shucks.

PowerBook G4 Update

Apple updated PowerBook G4 today. Nothing too exciting in the update. The only things worth noting are the 5.5 hour battery, and the Superdrive now supporting dual layer. It will be interesting to see next year when we get the intel powered Powerbooks. I'm still happy with the Powerbook I have, although that extra battery life would be pretty nice when I'm traveling.

October Break: Denmark and Broken Social Scene

For some reason my school, Bates decides to have the weirdest break schedule in the world. The good news is we have the rest of this week off as our fall break. We also get a full week off for Thanksgiving. So while most of the seniors are staying here working hard on thesis I am heading to Denmark, ME for a couple days of fun with my friends. It looks like it is in the middle of nowhere, but it should be fun.

Friday we are heading down to Boston, and just to make sure I would be doing something really fun I bought tickets to see Broken Social Scene. It's weird that the Avalon website doesn't have any mention of the show, but whatever it better happen. It should be an amazing show, I've heard that they are pretty great live.

Stubbs the Zombie: Great Indie Soundtrack

Stubbs the Zombie is a video game coming out this week. I don't care in the slightest about the video game, but check out this soundtrack. All star cast includes, Death Cab For Cutie, Rogue Wave, Ben Kweller, The Walkmen, and Clem Snide to name a few. All the songs are great remakes of old 50's songs because the video game takes place in like 1959. Go get this soundtrack now!!!

American Analog Set: No More

Pitchfork reports that American Analog Set will no longer exist as a band after their current tour ending in December. This is sad because American Analog Set is one of my go to study music bands. If this is going to be their last tour I recommend getting out to see them, I know I'll try to get to one of the Boston shows, but it may not be possible.

T.I.T.S. Ate Friendship: WRBC ROCKS

Ok, so if you go to the WRBC Website their link doesn't work for the radio stream. If you want it to work use this link http://wrbc.bates.edu:8005/listen.pls
Don't just try to plug it into your web browser, it won't work. You need to open iTunes, on a Mac hit -U to open a stream, or hit advanced, open stream. Plug the link into there and it should work fine. If you are having trouble IM me at trinity4r1.

My Morning Jacket - Concert Review 10.16.05 Portland, ME

If you haven't seen My Morning Jacket live, do yourself a favor and go do it as soon as possible. These guys rock, and they come to play. I saw them last night at the State Theater in Portland, Maine. They played a lot of new stuff off of Z that sounded great. The whole main set was without Bassist Tom. He had an allergic reaction to some shellfish he had eaten and was in the hospital. We had the option for a refund on our tickets, but forget that we came to rock with My Morning Jacket. We were left with a quartet that played their hearts out. They opened with the new opening track, "Wordless Chorus". Jim belted his lungs out and this song is quickly growing on me as well as all of the new album tracks. Now I didn't get a hold of the setlist, but I remember most of the key tracks. "One Big Holiday" was quite the crowd pleaser, "What A Wonderful Man", "It Beats 4 U", "What a Wonderful Man", and "Off the Record" all got the crowd moving and fist pumping. Kathlene Edwards joined the boys on stage for "Golden", and the epic "Dondante" was amazing. The Nick Drake cover of "Nothern Sky" made my girlfriend happy, I didn't recognize it until she told me. There were probably only about 3-4 hundred people at the show. It is kind of sad for such a great band, but it was a Sunday night and the show wasn't very well publicized. If you haven't heard of these guys or need some music to get into them check out this show from Washington, DC last week.

My Morning Jacket - Z, Live in Portland

My Morning Jacket

If you still haven't picked up the new album by My Morning Jacket - Z, go do it now. It is probably one of the best albums of 2005. I am lucky enough to be going to see them tonight in Portland. I'll let you know how the show is. Check out their website for some previews of the album or check out the live music archive for a bunch of their live shows to listen to.

Arrested Develeopment 301 - Cabin Show, for an iPod

Apple - QuickTime - Tutorials - Creating Video for iPod

So with the new video iPod released I decided I'd try my Quicktime Pro to convert one of the newest Arrested Develeopments to the .m4v . The process is pretty easy. The tutorial on the link above makes it really easy to do with the newest Quicktime. The file I started with was a 175MB xvid encoded .avi file. Encoding it with quicktime took about 2 hours and resulted in a 112MB m4v file. The file works great in iTunes, but viewing it in full screen is really pixalated. On an iPod it would probably look great. If you watch it in the lower left artwork viwer in iTunes it looks good, and I am assuming that is how it would look on an iPod. Now all I have to do is wait for someone to hack the 60GB iPod color to play videos and I'll be able to watch them on the go.

VLC Media Player for any platform

VideoLAN - Free Software and Open Source video streaming solution for every OS!

Ever download something, open it and it doesn't play? Well the great people over at videolan have created the best video program ever!! VideoLAN will play anything no matter what the codec or file type. It can do divx, xvid, svcd, dvd, and just about anything else you can name. It works great with Mac OSX and it is a great solution to having to load a billion codecs in Windows XP. This is the best free video playing software I've ever seen.

Boy Least Likely To - The Best Party Ever

BLLT NEWS

If you can find Boy Least Likely To's album, "The Best Party Ever" get it. It is an amazing album. I had never heard of it, and then randomly came across, but now I can't stop listening to it. You can read the Pitchfork Review: 8.5 which it definitely deserves. The music is fun, they use glockenspiels, banjos, and other fun instruments. My favorite track right now is "Monsters", its about everyone around the main character being monsters, having kids and being happy with their lives. It's a very entertaining song and I highly reccomend this album.

Arrested Development Returns Nov. 7th - 2 Episodes

the futon critic - the web's best primetime television resource

We are currently on an Arrested Development hiatus, but that's ok. We have the Season 2 DVD to catch up on. Three weeks without a new episode gives you just enought time to order both Seasons from Amazon, watch them all, breath, then be amazed at the pure genious of it all. A friend of mine just saw the second for the first time this week and said, "this season is better than the first, probably the best written comedy show ever!"

The two new episodes will be titled, "Notapusy", and "Mr. F". "Notapusy" is obviously continuing the British spy joke on the 007 film, "Octapusy". I won't divulge the summaries of these episodes, but you can read them off the futon critic.

So with the release of iTunes 6 I decided I'd check out the video option to buying TV shows. I bought the first episode of Lost for 1.99, with tax it came to 2.05, not a bad deal for a 46 minute TV show. The file was about 220 MB and a .m4v file. The files are drm'ed so I'm sure someone will come up with a way to remove that soon enough. The quality is good and completely watchable in full screen. Now if Fox would get picked up on this, I would be the first one to buy Arrested Development each week, and maybe they could even use it for ratings to see that people actually like it. C'mon Fox, tons of people would buy Family Guy, Simpsons, and whatever other shows you have. For now the only options are Lost, and Desperate Housewives, as well as some Pixar shorts and a bunch of music videos.

Apple's Update: New iMacs and Video iPods

The Apple Store (U.S.)

The apple store is back up with the new iMac G5, new iPods, and plus the new version of iTunes 6 is now available, that was damn quick.

I'm messing around with the new iTunes, right now it looks like the only TV show you can buy is Lost. Honestly 2 bucks an episode is a damn good deal. I think I might buy one just to see how it all works. It looks like Apple only has a deal with ABC and Disney in the way of TV shows right now. Too bad I don't watch anything on those channels.

I expect to see an iPod updater released relatively soon, and someone to hack whatever they have to to let my current 60GB iPod play videos as well. Supposedly there is already hardware in it to play them, so we just need an updater.

The new iMacs look awesome too. The most basic 17inch model comes with 512mb ram, 1.9GH G5 Processor, 160GB harddrive, and a 8x double layer DVD-RW drive. The higher end can go up to 20inches, 2.5gigs of RAM, and a 500GB harddrive. If I knew I was going to be living in one place for a while and was going to get a desktop computer I would buy one of these in a second. They all come with a mighty mouse and the new Mac Remote.

They call the new remote media center program, Front Row. The remote looks like an iPod Shuffle and can control all your digital needs on your computer, iTunes, iPhoto, iDVD. I've never used the Microsoft media center, but it looks pretty similiar.

iSight is built into the top of the computer and makes it that much more available and easier to use. These things are damn sexy. Cruise over to the apple website and look at them. I don't even care about the new iPods anymore after looking at these things.

Real Photos of new Video iPod?

Here are some supposed pictures of the new Video iPod. Thanks to this guy.

It will be back in an hour with whatever they're adding...

Supposed Add for the new Video iPod

So this is the supposed add for the new iPod. The screen looks bigger and the earphone jack is a little off center. The pictures is from ilounge, but their website is so busy right now, good luck loading it. Think Secret has an article up there too, if you can access that site, good luck.

New iPods Coming... Video iPod

Think Secret is backed up, so is iLounge. It's 12:30, so that means half an hour until it's ten on the west coast. Apple is making an announcement about "One More Thing". Speculation looks like the new video iPods will be coming but only time will tell what the actual configurations will be. Hold your breath for another hour and we'll see.

Showalter Presents : The Baxter

The Baxter | Official Website

If you've seen Stella, The State, Reno 911, Wet Hot American Summer, or Viva Variety you've seen these guys, and you've been influenced by their comedy. Michael Showalter, Michael Ian Black, and David Wayne are Stella, but The Baxter is Showalters newest endeavor. They are all in it, which was written, directed, and starred by Showalter himself (Zach Braff anyone, kidding). Go to the website watch the trailer and see if it is playing anywhere near you. I know the second it comes near me I'll see it, but since that probably won't happen, like Upright Citizen Brigade's Martin & Orloff, I'll have to wait for the DVD.

Video iPod in a few hours?

Think Secret - Video after all?

Think Secret is reporting that after all we may see video iPods tomorrow. Honestly I don't see how the iPod in its current configuration would be viable as a video playing device. Portable video viewing on a screen as small as the iPod isn't that fun, I don't even like looking at pictures on it.

If the video iPod does come out this is what I want to see:
- A/V output to hook up to a TV to play the videos
- Easy to use software to transfer my DVD's to the device
- an extended battery life because a video iPod would kill the battery a lot faster.
- Bigger harddrives, my Powerbook drive has a 100GB drive, why not an iPod with one. Think Secret is reporting no upgrade in the haddrive dept.

Most of all tomorrow I want to see iPod software update for my 60GB iPod to support lyrics, and the fun little locking software. C'mon Apple the nano can do it, why can't my 400$ 60GB iPod do it.

Top 10 products - CNET.com

Top 10 products - CNET.com

CNET nails it with their top ten products of the past ten years. iPod comes in at number one which is not suprising. Definitely the product that I use the most, and most obsessive product of the past ten years. It's set trends and is extremely innovative.

Tivo comes in at number two. Now Tivo is a new thing to me, I have just recently gotten DVR and it is amazing and completely changes your tv watching habits and abilities.

Google is number three. Think about it, how many times a day do you use google? I use it probably 50 times a day at least, plus I use their gmail, and their blogger. So yes Google definitely deserves this. If you don't have gmail yet and want it, I have 100 invites, so let me know.

Napster gets number four. I'm glad they say that in its current form it wouldn't make the list, but in its original form it was amazing. Everyone was using it, and everyone loved it. First song I downloaded on it was, Juveni - Back That Azz Up.

Firefox comes in at number 5. Probably the best browser ever created! Who can deny how versitile it is and how many awesome additions and expansions you can use with it. I am using the Blog this function right now. Tabbed browsing has also revolutionized using the internet.

The top five are the only ones that really apply to me. The rest are as follows:
6. Palm Pilot - I am completely dissorganized, so maybe i could use one of these things, no thanks though.
7. Motorola Startac - I still don't have a cellphone. Enough said.
8. Apple iMac - I never had one, but I love them. I remember my old friend from high school had one, I hated Macs back then. I love them now with my trusty Powerbook.
9. Sony Digital Mavica MVC-HD6 - One of the old digital cameras. I have a nikon coolpix, but I dropped it in a lake. It doesn't work so well anymore.
10. The Sims - I never played this game, but I loved the original Sim City. I don't see how it made this list, but then again I didn't make the list.

Remember to go buy Arrested Development Second Season on DVD today, or order both Seasons for 45$ off of Amazon for cheaper.

Wooden iPod Nano case

miniot.com

A wooden ipod nano case, it looks pretty cool. If I had an ipod nano, this is the case I would definitely get. Apple is supposed to announce new big ipods tomorrow as well as new Powerbooks and maybe some other computers.

Arrested Develoment Season 2 DVD

Arreste Development Season 2

I'm going to buy this tomorrow. Even though I already have all the episodes on my computer and I've watched them all probably 5 times over this DVD will be worth buying. It includes commentaries on some of the greatest episodes, plus deleted scenes and outakes. If you haven't started watching this show, do yourself a favor, buy the First Season. I couldn't reccomend this show any more. You can get both seasons for 45 bucks off of Amazon, thats a deal. 40 Episodes of comedic genious. C'mon!!

The Strange Bedfellows

The Strange Bedfellows

My improv groups blog. I am the only one that posts on it, but hey people need to know when our shows are. Harold show Sunday, for details see the blog.

Fight Club

Fight Club Movie Site
So I am memorizing a monologue from Fight Club for a theater class. I had been to the official movie website before, but I forgot how crazy and fun it is. If you haven't seen this movie, do yourself a favor and go rent it or borrow it from someone. Even if someone has already spoiled the whole thing for you, this movie is still worth seeing. Here is the transcription of the monologue I am doing(I hope Fox doesn't sue me for this one)I transcribed it from the DVD:

Narrator (V.O.)

And suddenly, I realize that all of this: the gun, the bombs, the revolution… has got something to do with a girl named Marla Singer.

Bob. Bob had bitch-tits. This was a support group for men with testicular cancer. The big moosey slobbering all over me , that was Bob.

Bob

We’re still men.

Narrator (V.O.)

“Yes, we’re men. Men is what we are.” 8 months ago, Bob’s testicles were removed. Then hormone therapy. He developed bitch-tits because his testosterone was too high, and his body upped the estrogen. And that was where I fit…

Bob

They’re gonna have to open my pecs again and drain the fluid.

Narrator (V.O.)

Between those huge sweating tits that hung enormous the way you’d think of God’s as big.
Bob

Ok. You cry now.

Narrator (V.O.)

No, wait. Back up. Let me start earlier.

For six months I couldn’t sleep. With insomnia nothing is real. Everything is far away. Everything is a copy of a copy of a copy. When deep space exploration ramps up, it’ll be the corporations that name everything. The I.B.M Stellar sphere, the Microsoft Galaxy, Planet Starbucks.

Boss

Gonna need you out of town a little more this week. We got some red flags to cover.

Narrator (V.O.)

It must’ve been Tuesday. He was wearing his cornflower-blue tie. “You want me to depriotize my current reports until you advise of a status upgrade?”

Boss

Make these your primary action items. Here’s your flight coupons. Call me from the road if there’s any snags.
Narrator (V.O.)

He was full of pep. Must have had his grand latte enema. Like so many others, I had become a slave to the IKEA nesting instinct. “Uh, yes. I’d like to order the Erica Pekkary dust ruffles.”

Please hold.
Narrator (V.O.)

If I saw something clever like a little coffee table in the shape of a yin-yang, I had to have it. The Klipske personal office unit, the Hovetrekke home exer-bike, or the Johannshamn sofa with the Strinne green stripe pattern. Even the Rizlampa wire lamps of environmentally friendly unbleached paper. I’d flip through catalogs and wonder: What kind of dining set defines me as a person? I had it all. Even the glass dishes with tiny bubbles and imperfections. Proof that they were crafted by the honest, simple, hard-working indigenious people of—(“Please hold”) Wherever. “I was holding”
We used to read pornography. Now it was the Horchow collection.

Weeds: Comedy Series on Showtime.

Weeds: Comedy Series on Showtime

Ok, so I randomly came across this show, and it is great. It is about a white suburban mom, Nancy, whose husband dies and she's forced to start dealing pot to get by. Her two sons one is like 8 and the other 15 are busy with their own lives. The younger one is pretty crazy, he makes terrorist videos and hunts panthers. The older one is busy trying to get laid, and hooking up with a deaf girl. Kevin Nealon's character, Doug, is an accountant or something, who is also involved in town politics, but buys tons of pot from Nancy. He helps her develop a cover for her dealing business. I highly recommend this show, the first season finale is this Monday at 10. I don't know anyone with showtime, but if you have it, watch it. This will definitely be one of those shows you have to get on DVD.

My Morning Jacket: Z

My Morning Jacket: Z: Pitchfork Review

Pitchfork gives it a 7.6, not too shabby. This is one of the many new albums that I've been listening to religiously. While you're at Pitchfork make sure you read the Broken Social Scene review and see if My Morning Jacket are coming near you on their tour.

New iPod

Think Secret - New iPod--but not video--on next week's itinerary

Looks like what I said yesterday may be BS. Apple may be introducing new iPods during their big even planned for next week. I don't see the point in hurrying these out so quickly after the nano, but I'll allow it. If there are 80GB ones, I bet the smallest of the HD based ones will move up to 40, unless they can pull off a 20GB in the size of the mini. We'll see next week. I bet we get a firmware upgrade for all the current ipods too, so we can view lyrics on our colors as well as have the fun locking function.

October 12 Apple Event

Think Secret - October 12 Apple event to usher in new Power Macs, PowerBooks

Looks like Mac users may be getting new Powerbooks and Power Mac. I don't think we'll be seeing anything intel yet, but one can hope. I have the most recent 15inch Powerbook and I'm extremely happy with it, lets see what they do. I bet the Powerbooks get a slight bump in processor speed, dual-layer superdrive option and up to 120GB harddrives. We'll find out in a week though.

People are hoping for new iPods but ThinkSecret makes a good point that Apple doesn't want to take away from the hype of the nano. It is selling so well why release a new HD based iPod. We won't see new iPods until either right before X-mas or early next year. The nano will rule until then.

The Mountain Goats

The Mountain Goats

So I've only listened to 6 songs by these guys, but they are great. I am listening to "The Sunset Tree" and this is damn good music. Their website has some downloads and stuff, so check it out. also they are on tour right now so check em out if you get a chance.

Halo Movie

Halo Movie

OK X-Box fans, the time has come. Peter Jackson is going to be directing the Halo Movie. Now we know that game is amazing, but the movie should be interesting. A movie just cements the power of the game. We can only hope that Bungie doesn't fuck things up at some point and make Halo 3 for X-Box 360 suck.

Like I said... (Google Continued)

Google and Sun Unite... Sungle?

So now it's not just chat, search, email, satellite images, but it is also soon to be Word Processing. Those crazy guys at Google are teaming up with Sun Microsystems to challenge Microsoft. More power to them, fuck Microsoft. Bill Gates has got enough money, time for someone else to shine. I just want them to come out with Google Earth for Mac OS X. I'll be waiting...

Google Talk

Google Talk
It's official, google is taking over the world. They now have the best search engine, email service, satellite picture program, and tons more. So now they are taking over instant messaging as well as phone. If I had money to invest, I would definitel give these guys some money because they are definitely on the top of whatever is new and up and coming. I haven't tryied this google talk yet, but I'm considering changing my iChat settings to it.

Survival of the fittest (smartest)

BBC NEWS | Health | 'A billion will die from smoking'
I can't help but read this article and think... just let them all die. If people don't want to heed the warnings, so be it. Smoking is a personal decision. If you want to quit, there are ways to do it. I know it is tough, any kind of addiction is tough to beat. Survival of the fittest (smartest). I think Darwin would just say that this is a natural progression. Billions of people will die from smoking, oh well.
God I am a dick and have no real sympathy.

Forget-Me-Now

Forget-Me-Now, this weeks installment of Arrested Development yet again had me laughing out loud. The show is geniously written, and the more episodes you've seen the funnier it is. The show bases a lot of its jokes off the inside joke, and if you've seen every episode(multiple times) you are probably in on the inside joke. This weeks best jokes include Tobias's, "analrapist" bit, in which he is an Analysis-Therapist, the forget-me-now ruffie pill, and the continuing weirdness of Maebe wanting to hook up with her cousins. I'm going to have to watch it again (thanks DVR) to pick up on some more jokes, and get a better idea of where this season is heading. THE BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION, WATCH IT MONDAYS AT 8 ON FOX.

My new music

It's tuesday and that means new music. So I bought the new Broken Social Scene, self-titled album. I haven't gotten a full listen yet, but it is promising and pitchfork gave it like an 8.4. I also got the new My Morning Jacket - Z. I like these guys and this album is pretty good so far. They are playing in Portland in a few weeks, I want to go check them out. Lastly I bought the newest Blackaliscious, noo review yet from me, but it looks promising. I bought all of these off of iTunes for 9.99 a piece, not a bad price. Of course I make sure to take all the digital rights management off them, so I don't have to deal with that in the future using jHymn. Somehow my iTunes account is already registered on 5 computers so using jHymn just makes it so I don't have to stress about being able to listen to my music or not.

George Bush Don't Like Black People

Internet Archive: Details: VIDEO: George Bush Don't Like Black People
In case you haven't seen this video yet, you should. It's a great remix of Kanye West's "Goldigger" with a Katrina, New Orleans theme.

P.S. SNL this weekend had a great bit with Kanye and Mike Meyers talking about the telethon. Mike Meyers breaks down since he claims he lost his US citizenship and the FBI are following him, definitely the best part of Saturday Night Live this weekend.

Curb Your Enthusiasm...

For some reason I don't find Larry David's humor funny anymore. For a while I liked how he structured the show Curb Your Enthusiasm. He'd introduce a bunch of awkward interactions where he is an asshole. They are all disconnected and then by the end of the episode everything connects somehow. The 5th season is two episodes in and he's just an asshole. I don't find myself laughing like I used to. I don't know what the deal is, but Larry David should end this project and move on to a new one.

Lack of inspiration

I continue to have no real inspiration to want to do any work. All I really want to do is explore comedy. I'm not even that good at it, but it intrigues me. School work seems pretty pointless in the long run, I guess even in the short run. My only inspirations right now are Music, and Comedy... I think I'm going a little bit crazy, and I have no idea what I am doing my thesis on.
Plans for the future: Travel the world, take improv classes in NYC or LA... that's all i have for now. No plans to use my degree in the slightest. Fuck I should have been a theater major.

Archive

Browse Top Level > Audio > Live Music Archive
The best free resource for free music on the net. Tons of bands to choose from. You can stream it or download it and deal with it. This is really my only source for live music on the net because my school network is so shitty and bittorrent doesn't work.
